Traditions (2010)

In 2009 I was assigned by the ngo Volkskunde Vlaanderen to photograph traditions and popular rituals in Flanders. During the cycle of one calender year I photographed about 50 different events, both religious and secular, obscure and well-known, public and private, indigenous and foreign. However, this body of work is about more than traditions only. On a secondary level, these photographs comment on the multicultural reality, urbanisation and national identity.

The book Tradities is published by Het Davidsfonds Leuven. Tradities has been exhibited at Huis van Alijn - Ghent, Kaunas Photo - Lithuania, De Engelbewaarder - Amsterdam, Visa pour l’Image - Perpignan (screening).
